‘Kristina’ theatre due to ‘go dark’ on February 24th

The Broadway Theatre that has played host to The Color Purple for 30 previews and 910 performances is to be made free for a new show on February 24th. That new show was to be the English version of the Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson Swedish hit Kristina från Duvemåla.

Here’s a quote from Benny, made to the Swedish press in May 2006:

"We have a venue, the Broadway Theatre, where The Color Purple is playing right now, but we will not be able to take up residence before that show has finished. It could take anything from six months to two years."

Sadly, the stage show isn’t going to happen yet but my fingers are firmly crossed for the proposed New York concerts later in 2008.
