CHESS Tour wins Best Regional Production

Congratulations to Craig Revel Horwood and all the cast and crew of the UK CHESS Tour which has won Best Regional Production at tonight’s What’s On Stage awards.

Hopefully this bodes really well for a West End transfer!

It’s significant that CHESS was the only touring show nominated, whilst the others (Hamlet – at Sheffield Crucible, Antony & Cleopatra – at the Liverpool Playhouse, 42nd Street – at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Lend Me a Tenor – at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth and A Raisin in the Sun – at the Royal Exchange, Manchester) were all shows ‘in situ’. Quite an achievement!

Craig Revel Horwood was at the awards to accept on behalf of the cast and crew who were mainly resting before heading off to open in Belfast this week.

  1. I agree with Martin Bolton, Well done Chess,Great job by team icethesite no mean feat with a mostly aged audience who won’t be computer savvy – I loved the show I just Wish the American had stronger vocals also he one of the Russians mumble terribley in the second act. Pity great songs and a wonderul staging Ammazzzzing Darh’lin.

  2. goodness me!

i’ve seen the show several times – and James Fox is easily the best Freddie ever – and his vocals second to none – never a note fluffed – so, stronger vocals? come on Gail!

    🙂

  3. Caught the show tonight in Woking – stunning!
Probably the best version I’ve seen or heard – and I date back to the original production in 1986!!

  4. …And in other Chess news, it looks as though B&B are set for another UK number one…

Susan Boyle and Peter Kaye did a spoof of I Know Him So Well on Comic Relief last night, which is being released on Monday. According to the news sites, it went down very well.

    Congratulations in advance, B&B! 🙂

  5. I got the Single today, Peter Kay takes his singing part seriously so it’s a good version, there is also a disco remix on it , I wonder what Benny and Bjorn make of it.

  6. Just checked the New official BBC Radio one charts

and I know him so well by Susan Boyle and Peter Kay is the highest new entree at number 11.

This is a very respectable chart position for a song outside radio ones normal musical parameters. Now they have to play it Hurray!!!
