‘What’s The Name Of The Dame?’ documentary celebrates the gay community’s love of ABBA

From IMDB: What’s the Name of the Dame? is a hilarious and heartfelt documentary musical that follows nine beloved top drag divas, each of them a gifted vocalist and performer, including Hedda Lettuce, Edie, Cashetta, Sade Pendarvis, and Yolanda, as they reinterpret some of ABBA’s greatest songs with humor and style, in distinctly different genres ranging from rhythm and blues to rock to Broadway ballad to country western.

The film publicity states that it also features interviews with special guests including Benny Andersson, Bruce Vilanch, Joan Rivers, Christine Baranski, Graham Norton, Frank DeCaro, Carson Kressley, Ari Gold, and a host of others.

The film short explores the gay community’s love of ABBA by having nine celebrated drag divas – including Hedda Lettuce and Sade Pendarvis – reinterpret the group’s songs. The world premiere is at the Atlanta Film Festival on Sunday, 1 May at 7PM.

  1. It’s different! Puts a completely new twist on the songs…personally I would always go for the originals as how do you better those? But for a laugh, which is what ‘Abbalicious’ is all about, it’s good, if a little weird.

    I will reserve judgement on this set up…but I’m game for a laugh, and I’d love to hear Benny or Bjorn’s comments!

  2. Sounds like one not to miss at all, if you are a keen ABBA fan who able to feel no need for shame or embarrassment about loving their music, or how they dressed themselves whilst presenting them.

    I shall now be keeping my Eagle eye on this screening in Australia!
