What next…Kristina the movie?!
The paper reports: "It would be an honour if they would like to see me again," says Pierce Brosnan.
It has long been speculated that the succesful musical Kristina från Duvemåla will be a film, and exclusively Expressen reveals now that Mamma Mia! stars Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep say that they would consider a role if the movie became a reality.
When Expressen informs Benny, he says "Really? They said that? What fun!" He continues, "We will see what happens, if it becomes a movie or not. But I would like to have these people in that case. They are fantastic."
Stellan Skarsgård, the only Swede with a major role in Mamma Mia!, is more vague in his answer when it comes to possible involvement in a Kristina från Duvemåla film.
"I want to be involved … but only if I get to play Kristina!" he says and laughs.
Whilst I would love to see a Kristina Movie – has Pierce Brosnan heard the score – does he really think he could sing those songs??
We know Meryl S would be great but we need some good male vocalists for Kristina – How about Josh Groben??
I don’t think Benny ad Bjorn would suffer a decade of legal purgatory and invest what to the average CEO would be a fortune in legal fees fighting the intellectually property issue for a decade.
I think it’s a very positive sign that Bjorn has pencilled in Alice Ripley for the part of Ulrika.
You know she had to be dying to play the title role and may get a crack at it if Kristina lands on Broadway and she has understudied the lead for the role.
Alice is nobody’s fool and if she signed on there’s a real good chance that the piece is still being tweaked.
With the civil action to deal with for a decade and the full-court press that it takes to bring in a movie on schedule, I simply don’t think that Benny had the time to put the finishing touches on Kristina.
I’m thinking in the next month or so you’ll be hearing more news about B & B’s plans for the show.
I would give anything to see the movie made (or see the show in general), but Pierce Brosnan would ruin it for me. No offense to him, but he just can’t sing.
Don’t worry, Pierce (or any of the other ‘Mamma Mias’ for that matter) will NOT be in Kristina The Movie as it is not on the cards. Ice has alluded to this somewhere but I can’t find it right now.
Expressen was just drumming up what is in effect a non-story. Meryl and Pierce had never heard of Kristina, it seems, and as for Stellan, well you can tell how seriously he took the paper’s comment!
The "cone of silence" surrounding "Kristina" is maddening.
I’m hoping that Benny, Bjorn, are simply bidng their time waiting
for the proper moment to ambush Broadway with this masterpiece.
Hugh Panero would be a solid Karl-Oscar, although he may be just
a hair too old for the part.
I saw a guy in "Jersey Boys" this week who has incredible charisma
and would be mesmerizing in the part. He’s a lean 6’1", fair haired,
with just a touch of the "Nilson nose". I’d imagine he could hammer
"Vilgras" and the women in the audience would be mad for the guy.
