Latest round-up of Mamma Mia! takings

The Hollywood Reporter: Universal’s Mamma Mia! continued its remarkably fruitful overseas run during the weekend, claiming the No. 1 spot for the third consecutive frame with an estimated $14 million from 4,359 screens in 48 markets.

The international tally for the feature adaptation of the stage musical now stands at $334 million. Combined with its domestic take, "Mamma’s" global boxoffice total comes to $475 million.

Variety: International powerhouse Mamma Mia! continued to croon sweetly at the foreign box office, raking in $14 million at 4,539 playdates in 48 markets to lead an otherwise moderate frame.

Thanks to sensational holdover biz in every market, Universal’s feel-good tuner has led the foreign box offices for three straight frames and totaled a dazzling $334 million overseas — 70% of its worldwide total of $475 million.

The pic’s third South Korean frame fell only 29% to $2.9 million, and its 11th U.K. weekend declined 37% to $1.4 million for a Brit cume of $118.8 million, the fourth highest in that market after Titanic and the first editions in the Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings series. Mamma Mia! declined 34% in its French soph sesh to $2 million and opened in first in Singapore with $399,000.

The Meryl Streep vehicle shows no signs of losing steam in foreign markets with a dozen territories to go, including next weekend in Russia and the following frame in Italy.

Mamma Mia! has proven a tonic at a time when international moviegoing’s typically at a slow pace as studios opt not to go day-and-date with Stateside openings.

  • Hello There,
Firstly – ‘Mamma Mia!’ is also currently the No.1
Box Office Film in the entire World! (NOT of All Time, but for this Week).

    In the meantime:,

The UK Box Office figures are now in for the
    Weekend of 19th September.

‘Mamma Mia!’ stays at No.2 in the UK Box Office
Chart, & takes a further £708,489. It brings its
11 Week Total to £61,653,876. It is now the
FOURTH All Time Box Office Film in the UK – having
overtaken ‘The Lord Of The Rings : Return Of The
King’, which was at No.4 on £61,100,000.

So far in the Weekly UK Box Office Chart, ‘Mamma
    Mia!’ has done this:,

    1 – 1 – 2 – 2 – 3 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2

(The News Agency Reuters recently said that the
Film has yet to reach No.1 in the Weekly UK Box
Office, but this is nonsense. It was No.1 for
its first 2 Weeks – back in July).

In the USA, it has done this:,

    2 – 3 – 4 – 6 – 7 – 8 – 8 – 9 – 12 – 12

It has taken $1,065,000 to remain at No.12, &
has taken a Total of $141,211,000.

  • Other facts!

Highest ever grossing film in Iceland having taken USD 1m and 1 in 3 people have seen the film there.

Massive in Asia too – it was the biggest ever film opening in Singapore and has been the top grossing film for 3 weeks in Korea.

Who know Abba were that big in Asia.

  • Mamma Mia….doing well!!! i should say so!!!…as of 9/10/08…is now the 3rd most successful movie in U.K.history, should and could beat Harry Potter part 1…Then theres only "Titanic"…just passed the £64millon mark!!! AMAZING!!!

  • A good sign is that the film has started to earn more than the week before – the two multiplexs near me are now back to running a full programme of showings throughout the day after they had cut down to a couple of afternoon showings. Those newspaper adverts must be reminding people and the TV ad now carries the "see it cinemas" byline, also with the chronic news and credit crunch warnings in the papers and on TV people need something to lift their spirits so theres a good chance Mamma Mia! will earn even more yet.
Any news on what the journal with the Mamma Mia gift set maybe be – just a plain diary or actually filled with details about the film?

  • U.K. update; As of 13.10.08 Mamma Mia has taken £65.2millon and rising…another 800.000 and it will be the 2nd most successful movie of all time in the U.K…..lets hope it will move that Iceberg Titanic!!!!
