The workers were picked by Welsh commercials producer, Wordley Production Partners, which was commissioned to make the advert.
The company approached workers from across South Wales to make the advert – which saw them all sing their own little piece of Mamma Mia!
While Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan hogged the limelight in the main movie, they had to budge over for hairstylists Sam Sykes and Mark Hodgson and tyre firm boss Darren Haszcnyn for the promotional film.
Sam, 34, who works at Jego Hair Salons in Lakeside and Llanishen, said: “One of the producers of it is one of our clients at the salon and just asked if we wanted to be in it.
“We were all really nervous before the film crew came but then we soon relaxed and it was brilliant fun once we got started.
“In the video I had to look at the camera and I’m holding the shampoo rinser and singing ‘How can I resist you?’
“I was totally embarrassed but I absolutely love it.”
Darren, 38, who works at Hi Q Tyres, on Penarth Road, Cardiff, said he was happy to get in on the act.
“When I was asked I just thought ‘that’s a bit different’ so I went for it,” he said.
“They did a couple of shoots with some of the other boys but then they wanted someone to do a solo and I got lumbered with it. We really enjoyed it.”
Wordley was commissioned by Universal to create a 60-second roadblock spot to launch the DVD release which will go on air for the first time tonight during UK ITV’s X Factor.
Sarah Jones, the TV spot’s producer at Wordley, said: “Universal wanted to create a spot that really captured the feel-good factor, so the Wordley production team hit the streets of the UK to find fans of the film willing to dance and sing-along.
“We captured hundreds of people on camera, including market stall holders, hairdressers, lollipop ladies, bakers and even a tyre fitter!”
