BAO - Live in London

No tickets required!!!

The Benny Andersson Band – : Benny Andersson, musician, composer, member of ABBA and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music founded the immensely popular and successful dance orchestra, Benny Andersson Orchestra (BAO) in 2001 together with his friends, some of Sweden´s best known popular musicians. BAO´s records are bestsellers and the orchestra tours Sweden every summer playing its very own eclectic mixture of folk, pop and dance music, inspiring audiences to participate.

Singers Tommy Körberg and Helen Sjöholm who are successful solo artists in their own right have toured with the orchestra for a number of years. Some members of  BAO also separately form the well known Swedish folk music group Orsa Spelmän. We are pleased to welcome Benny Andersson Orchestra to London and Hampstead Heath.

Many thanks to Eva at the embassy for the update.

  • I was really surprised when this was announced and the fact that it is a free show is even more of a surprise.

Well done to the organisers. Can’t wait.

Maybe I’ll finally get to meet the Ice-man there!

  • Can’t wait to go and my leave form is already in.
See you all there I guess….

  • Wow! The first opportunity I get to see one of the fab four performing in the flesh and it will be free!

  • Great news. And due to a change in travel plans, I’ll be going to the concert! Very excited already.

  • Time off booked. Staying nearby with relatives. Just start counting the days now until 4th July. Really looking forward to a fantastic swedish themed evening.

  • just booked a hotel for the sat night just need a train now !! CANT WAIT

  • GO if you have the chance! Great music and musicianship, great musicians AND the same energy in the music as with ABBA! You´ll have a grat night out and one of the best concertexpereiences you have had for a long time!John

  • Amazing, amazing, amazing.
    Cannot wait for this.
    So exciting.
    See you folks there.

  • Woo hoo! Have a place to stay booked and am ready to "dans". What a wonderful event it should be.

  • Current plans for the event and stage are at the bottom of Parliament Hill.

  • Oh how I’d wish one of the Swedish Consulates in Australia would organise a similar concert –somewhere/anywhere– in Australia. I know we’re far away, but it’d be great! Plus I’m sure that some of mainstream Australia would enjoy hearing some of the gems from BAO that us fans have enjoyed for years. Perhaps they could temp Benny with a special yachting event in Sydney Harbour ;o) Sigh.

  • Benny said in an interview with Elaine Paige on BBC Radio 2 that there will be a huge dancefloor and lights (a la Swedish BAO concerts) set up in front of the stage at Hampstead Heath.

  • Looking forward to a fun filled evening with our good friends Terry and Martin

  • will there be a dvd out? i hope so been trying for ages to get one

  • What great news! I intend to be there. Does anyone know if Helen Sjöholm will be in London for the concert? I’ve heard her sing and she has a terrific voice. Are the Benny Andersson Orchestra CDs available in England? I heard "Our Last Dance" on Elaine Paige’s show on Radio 2 last week and thought I’d pick up the CD, but it doesn’t seem to be available.

  • Hi David and thanks for leaving your message. ‘If This Is Our Last Dance’ (the English version of ‘Vår sista dans’) will almost certainly appear on the Benny Andersson’s Orchestra album due out in the summer of this year.

There are a number of online Swedish or Scandinavian music stores that will ship to the UK, you try http://cdon.com for example.

Or, you could try the official ABBA site mail order store:

Select Solo Projects and you’ll find all four BAO albums on Page 1 of the lists.

Yes, Helen Sjöholm and fellow vocalist Tommy Körberg will be at the London concert on July 4, 2009.

I hope the above information helps.

  • Anyone know if this will be televised?

  • Does anyone know what time BAO will be performing?

  • Mark, the earliest announcement said 6 pm. Looking at the lineup and the start and finish times (2 pm to 9 pm) that seems a likely time for the headline act.

  • I’d recommend this to anyone who has a chance to go. I’ve seen BAO a couple of times now, and they put on a fantastic show. Benny seems to really enjoy playing with them too. If you want to get a close-up view of him though, you’ll need to brush up on your waltz and foxtrot – he’s pretty strict about the dance floor being for dancing, not watching!

  • 4th July is Tommy’s birthday – I remember it being mentioned last 4th July (which was a special day in Stockholm remember!).

We should all sing him Happy Birthday (before we treat Benny to a fans version of The Way Old Friends Do!).

  • Train tickets now brought but hope the show concludes at stated time as have to travel back to Nottingham saturday night….work on sunday!!
So looking forward to the experience and probably getting lost in the big smoke!

  • Are BAO the last act on? I can’t get down during the day but might be able to for the last couple of hours. I would love to see this gig and could try planning if I had a rough idea when they’d be on.

  • Thanks for the reply, Ian. I know it was about 3 months ago, but forgot I’d posed the question. Is there a site that has finalised times because I am hoping to be there? I can’t find the info anywhere on the net. I promise I will check back here!

  • Benny is due on stage at 18.00 but there is plenty to do and see all afternoon, so get there early!

  • Its so exiting seeing a real Live member of ABBA and the clip of the song story of a heard on the Jonathan Ross show sounded great
    I cant wait.
