Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus have agreed to sign a specially designed flag, which will be raffled later this year to raise funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research.
The ‘Flying the Flag’ charity was born in 2013 when Karen and Dale Roberts embarked on a challenge to secure the signatures of all UK winners of the Eurovision Song Contest on a flag designed by renowned Minipop icons artist Ben Morris.
Now ‘Flying the Flag 2’ aims to build on the previous fundraising success with an even more ambitious project…this time a new Minipop icons flag will be raffled to commemorate the 40th anniversary of ABBA’s Eurovision win.
In addition to the four members of ABBA, the flag’s design features both the presenter of the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, Katie Boyle (who has also been asked to sign the flag), and Sven-Olof Walldoff, who provided one of the classic Eurovision moments when he took to the podium to conduct the Swedish entry dressed as Napoleon.
The number 40 is also prominent, with the sea and iconic landmark of Brighton’s Royal Pavilion appearing within the digits, while the colours of the Swedish flag provide the background to the main image.
