Exclusive! Benny Andersson talks ‘Kärlekens Tid’ to icethesite

Benny Andersson has recorded an album, Kärlekens Tid, which is now out in Sweden and is also available to download in some other territories.

The recording features Gustaf Sjökvists Kammarkör (GSKK) performing tracks specially selected from Benny’s back catalogue, including songs from the musicals CHESS and Kristina från Duvemåla.

In November 2014, Gustaf Sjökvist told icethesite:

“It has been really wonderful to work with Benny. His music suits the choir perfectly because it has such strong classical roots. We have had a lot of fun putting the album together.”

In February 2015, Gustaf Sjökvist, passed away after a long illness. The choir continues its activities with the intention of carrying Gustaf’s musical message on.

Two special concerts are being held this Sunday in Eric Ericsonhallen on Stockholm’s Skeppsholmen island where Benny, his musicians and GSKK will perform songs from Kärlekens Tid.

In January 2015, in an interview with icethesite, Benny talked about how the (then unfinished) album had come about and about the recording.

The tracklist of the eleven songs can be seen on the album artwork below:

  • Cannot wait to get this and hoping it arrives today in time for my birthday tomorrow! (ordered it way back in July from CDon!). Lovely interview and nice smiles from Benny! (Was that his GX1synth next to him!!!!!????) If so, to see one in the flesh…ooh!

  • Fascinating how his music evolves into different projects.
I see he has chosen a few pieces of music on this album which have not been recorded previously although they have existed.

It´s a great album no doubt these songs will be sung by choirs in generations to come!
