Benny Andersson In Our Hearts – A new tribute concert
Malmö Live Konserthus has announced a series of concerts dedicated to the music of Benny Andersson.
For four evenings in May, the state-of-the-art venue will play host to the 90 musicians of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra alongside some of Sweden’s most prominent solo artists such as Gunilla Backman (Mamma Mia!, Les Miserables, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon), Fred Johansson (Aladdin, Footloose, Sunset Boulevard, Evita, Beauty & The Beast) and Frida Öhrn (known for her successful collaborations with Sweden’s foremost artists and her 2020 cover of Roxette’s Fading Like A Flower) together with The Voices of Scandinavia Choir.
With a running time of 1 hour and 50 minutes Benny Andersson i våra hjärtan will feature performances from Benny’s entire back catalogue including; The Hep Stars, ABBA, CHESS, Kristina från Duvemåla, Hjälp sökes and Benny Anderssons Orkester (BAO).
The concert’s conductor, one of Sweden’s most popular music personalities and a founder of the concert series Swedish Stars, Anders Berglund, describes Benny’s compositions as a goldmine of treasures and says the concerts will be an unforgettable journey through his art and the music that has touched so many over the years.
Built in 2015 on the centrally located University Island as part of the project to transform the former industrial city into a hub of creativity, Malmö Live also consists of an hotel, conference centre, restaurants, bars and a gym. Designed by Danish architects, Schmidt Hammer Lassen, the development was awarded the Swedish Building Of The Year Award in 2016.
The concert hall, which has a capacity of 1600, is modelled on the Musikverein in Vienna and boasts world renowned acoustics.
Every time a new concert hall is inaugurated they speak of world class sound, but in Malmö it is truly justified.” (Danish newspaper Politiken)
